SDP Slams PDP for Spreading Fake News About Alleged Defections
The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Oyo State has strongly refuted claims made by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) regarding the alleged defection of some of its members. SDP has urged PDP to stop spreading false information about the supposed mass defection, which it says never occurred.
PDP had earlier reported that a significant number of SDP members from Oluyole Local Government Area had switched allegiance to PDP, allegedly led by one Mr. Olusina Ogunsola. However, SDP has categorically denied this, insisting that Ogunsola is not affiliated with the party, nor is he known to have any connection with its Oluyole chapter.
In a joint statement released by Ganiyu Lawal, SDP chairman, and Saheed Adewale Adetunji, the party’s secretary in Oluyole Local Government, they emphasized that the local chapter of SDP remains strong and intact. They further clarified that any individuals named in the defection story had left the party long before the 2023 general elections, citing the defection of their gubernatorial candidate, who had publicly supported PDP’s Governor Oluseyi Makinde during that period.
“The claim by Mr. Ogunsola that he led our members to the PDP shows his lack of understanding of Oluyole politics. He is being used by political opportunists,” the statement read.
SDP’s leaders also took the opportunity to urge PDP to cease spreading what they described as “fake news” and reassured the public that no members of the party had defected to PDP. They warned that such baseless claims only serve to confuse the electorate.
