A 24-year-old farmer, Bilal Salisu, has been sentenced to 30 months in prison by the Jos Magistrates’ Court for diverting a customer’s N1,478,000 for personal use.

The sentence was handed down by Magistrate Shawomi Bokkos after Salisu pleaded guilty to a one-count charge of misappropriation.

In addition to his prison term, the convict was given the option of paying a N50,000 fine or serving an additional six months in prison. Magistrate Bokkos also ordered Salisu to pay compensation of N1,287,000 to the complainant, Ahmad Sabiu. Failure to pay the compensation would result in an additional two years of imprisonment.

The case was reported on December 7, 2024, by Ahmad Sabiu, who informed the Angwan Rogo police station that he had entrusted Salisu with N1,478,000 to purchase chemicals. However, the defendant diverted the funds for his personal use. During the police investigation, N200,000 was recovered from Salisu.

The prosecutor, Ibrahim Gokwat, confirmed that the offense violated the Plateau Penal Code Law.
