Kano Assembly Approves Bills for State-Owned Security Corps and Electricity Agency
The Kano State House of Assembly has approved the second reading of two significant bills aimed at boosting the state’s economic and security frameworks. The proposed legislation seeks to establish a state-owned security corps and an electricity generation agency.
Presenting the bills, the Majority Leader of the House, Lawan Hussaini Dala, emphasized that the creation of these two agencies would contribute to the economic development of Kano State. Dala noted that with southern states like Lagos and Oyo having established security outfits, such as Amotekun, to address internal security challenges, it has become imperative for Kano State to establish its own security mechanisms.
He further explained that the approval for the establishment of the electricity generation agency follows the federal government’s recent endorsement, which grants states the ability to generate their own electricity in an effort to boost economic growth.
The proposed Security Corps will have officers empowered to carry locally made firearms for self-defense. Additionally, they will have the authority to apprehend suspects and transfer them to the police for prosecution in court.
With these developments, Kano aims to bolster its security infrastructure and energy capacity to meet the growing demands of its population and economy.
