Troops from the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, operating under the ongoing Operation Golden Peace, have successfully intercepted rustled livestock and arrested three suspected cattle rustlers in Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The arrest followed actionable intelligence, which led the troops to apprehend the suspects—Sabiu Lawal, Haruna Ayuba, and Yusuf Mukawo—all residents of Kampanin Zurak in Plateau State. The operation took place on January 27, 2025, at Namnai village in Gassol LGA.
According to the Army’s Acting Spokesperson, Captain Oni Olubodunde, the suspects were found in possession of 174 cows and 57 sheep, which had reportedly been stolen from border villages between Plateau and Taraba States.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the stolen livestock were being transported toward Cameroon through Karamati in Gashaka Local Government Area. Authorities are now working closely with local community leaders to identify the rightful owners and ensure the safe return of the animals.
The operation highlights ongoing efforts by the Nigerian Army to combat cattle rustling and secure local communities against cross-border criminal activities.
