Benue Community Thwarts TCN Tower Vandalism, Arrests Suspect
Residents of Watuolo village in Ado Local Government Area, Benue State, have successfully thwarted an attempt to vandalize a tower of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) located along the Ugwuaji–Makurdi 330 Kilovolt transmission line.
The incident, which occurred on Saturday, was confirmed by TCN in a statement released by Mrs. Ndidi Mbah, the General Manager of Public Affairs. According to Mbah, the village’s residents noticed suspicious activity around the tower at around 3am. Their quick action led to the apprehension of one suspected vandal, while the others managed to flee the scene. The captured suspect was handed over to the police.
TCN commended the swift response of the villagers, urging other communities hosting critical infrastructure to follow their example in protecting such assets. “The people of Watuolo village acted swiftly and with great vigilance. We encourage other host communities to take ownership of safeguarding transmission installations in their areas,” Mbah stated.
In her statement, she also highlighted TCN’s ongoing collaboration with security forces and host communities to combat vandalism. She stressed the important role local residents play in protecting vital power infrastructure, and appealed for continued vigilance across the country.
