Joe Igbokwe, a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has spoken out in defense of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, insisting that El-Rufai once boldly challenged former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele over monetary policies that were allegedly aimed at undermining President Bola Tinubu.
In a recent post on Facebook, Igbokwe reflected on how El-Rufai took legal action against Emefiele’s controversial policies in the lead-up to the 2023 presidential election. Igbokwe recalled that Emefiele’s monetary policies were believed to be deliberately designed to hinder Tinubu’s chances of winning the presidency.
Despite El-Rufai’s recent criticisms of the APC and his assertion that the party has strayed from its founding principles, Igbokwe remains resolute in his admiration for the former governor’s earlier actions. El-Rufai had expressed his frustration with the APC, citing that its organs had failed to meet in the past two years.
Reacting to these developments, Igbokwe wrote: “Do not tell me negative things about El-Rufai. I do not dwell on negativities. I dwell on positive things.”
He then reminded his followers of El-Rufai’s courage when he took the bold step of heading to court to challenge Emefiele’s policies, which he claims were specifically designed to target Tinubu. “Emefiele’s monetary policy was targeted at PBAT,” Igbokwe asserted, referring to Tinubu. “The major progenitors of the fraudulent banking policy are from a particular zone called SS. The plot failed woefully.”
Igbokwe’s comments shed light on a dramatic chapter in Nigerian politics, emphasizing El-Rufai’s commitment to standing up for Tinubu’s interests during a pivotal moment in the 2023 election cycle.
