“Sokoto Governor Approves Free JAMB/UTME Registration for Underprivileged Students”
In a bid to support underprivileged students, Sokoto State Governor, Ahmad Aliyu, has approved the free registration of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB)/UTME and Direct Entry (DE) exams for the 2025/2026 academic session. This initiative is part of the governor’s 9-point agenda, which seeks to reduce the financial burden on qualified yet financially disadvantaged students.
The announcement was made in a statement on Friday by the Commissioner for Higher Education, Professor Isa Muhammad Maishanu. He explained that Governor Aliyu’s approval stems from his recognition of the financial struggles many families face, particularly when it comes to the cost of education.
Professor Maishanu highlighted that the free registration is intended to assist indigent students in gaining admission to universities and other tertiary institutions across Nigeria. The governor has also approved the payment of online registration fees for all eligible students.
“This initiative is aimed at easing the financial burden on students and helping them pursue their academic dreams,” said Maishanu.
The free JAMB registration PINs will be distributed through the 23 Local Government Secretariats across Sokoto State. Eligible students are instructed to visit their respective secretariats to collect the registration forms and complete the necessary process. The State Ministry for Higher Education will oversee the distribution to ensure that it is conducted fairly and efficiently.
To participate, candidates must first generate a Profile Code by texting: NIN (space) followed by their 11-digit National Identification Number (NIN) to 55019.
Importantly, only students who meet the academic requirement of at least five credits, including Mathematics and English, will qualify for the program. The Ministry of Higher Education has urged all beneficiaries to take full advantage of this opportunity and work hard to succeed in their examinations.
