“House of Representatives Launches Probe into NPA Assets and Illegal Occupation of Federal Government Houses”
The House of Representatives Subcommittees on Public Assets have officially commenced investigations into the assets of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and the illegal occupation of Federal Government Houses in Abuja, with a goal to recover improperly occupied properties.
During their inaugural meeting, the two subcommittees—the Subcommittee on NPA Assets and the Subcommittee on Federal Government Houses in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT)—outlined their readiness to begin the probes.
Ibrahim Ayokunle Isaka, Chairman of the Subcommittee on NPA Assets, emphasized the committee’s commitment to conducting a thorough investigation. He stressed that the investigation would go beyond mere inquiry, aiming to foster a culture of accountability in managing public assets and to restore public trust in the country’s institutions. “We are called to promote a culture of accountability to ensure public assets serve the interest of the people,” he said.
Meanwhile, Dumnamene Dekor, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Federal Government Houses in Abuja, assured that the committee would focus on recovering properties that have been illegally occupied. Dekor, who also heads the House Committee on Host Communities, pledged that the committee would visit the illegally occupied houses, assuring that the investigation would be conducted diligently with the objective of ensuring proper use of these federal properties.
The House Committee on Public Assets, under the leadership of Hon. Ademorin Kuye, is tasked with overseeing the investigation of public assets in all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). The committee’s mission is to ensure that these assets are used for their intended purposes and contribute effectively to the nation’s development.
