Primate Elijah Ayodele, the leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, has urged the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to persuade former President Goodluck Jonathan and former Senate President Bukola Saraki to run for president in the 2027 elections if the party hopes to secure victory.
In a statement released on Monday, Ayodele stated that former PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar is not the answer for the party in 2027. He warned that if Atiku contests again, it could lead to the final demise of the PDP.
“PDP needs to wake up from its slumber, and the best way to do this is by convincing Goodluck Jonathan to contest,” Primate Ayodele said. “Atiku will not be the answer for PDP, and if he runs again, it will be the end of the party. He simply doesn’t have what it takes to unseat Tinubu.”
Ayodele advised Atiku to step aside and support a stronger candidate, with Jonathan being the ideal person to lead the party to victory in 2027. He further suggested that if Jonathan teams up with Saraki and garners support from a coalition of opposition parties, PDP could have a strong chance at the polls.
He acknowledged that Jonathan may be hesitant, but urged the party to provide him with the necessary backing to encourage him to run. “Jonathan is scared, and the fear of the unknown is troubling him,” Ayodele explained. “If PDP can support him, he will help the party stay alive.”
Primate Ayodele also warned that without Jonathan’s candidacy and without a strong coalition, President Bola Tinubu is likely to retain his position in 2027. He outlined the qualities required to challenge Tinubu, saying the next contender must be financially stable, fearless, and willing to take risks.
“The person who can remove Tinubu must be desperate, spiritually inclined, and willing to face any challenge head-on,” he said. “The 2027 election is not for lazy or righteous individuals; it’s for those who are determined and ready to pursue victory at all costs.”
Ayodele concluded by stressing that the 2027 election will be tough and that anyone hoping to defeat Tinubu must be ready for a hard fight.
