“Nigeria Police’s Successful Operation: Over 63 Suspects Arrested, Firearms Seized”
In a significant move against organized crime and insecurity, the Nigeria Police Force has successfully arrested 63 suspected gun runners and confiscated over 191 prohibited firearms across the country. The operation also led to the recovery of 4,255 assorted live ammunition, marking a major step forward in the fight against illegal arms trafficking.
Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, shared the details of the successful operation in a statement on Monday, emphasizing the breakthrough achieved in curbing illegal firearms circulation in Nigeria.
One of the key successes of the operation involved the arrest of eight suspects linked to a gun-running syndicate operating in Plateau State and surrounding areas. Among those arrested were Joseph Tara, Victor Ali Pam, Abua Yusuf, and others, all captured after credible intelligence led authorities to a vehicle concealed with a large stash of arms. The recovered weapons included 12 rounds of 7.88mm live ammunition, 8 fabricated AK-47 rifles, 4 fabricated revolver guns, 4 semi-automatic pistols, 11 AK-47 magazines, and over 1,100 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition.
Another notable arrest was that of Amos Sunday Gyang, who was found in possession of a semi-automatic pistol hidden inside a cushion in his rented apartment. Gyang claimed to have discovered the firearm but failed to report it to the authorities.
ACP Adejobi stressed the illegality of possessing unlicensed firearms and urged citizens to immediately report any weapons they come across to the police.
The Nigeria Police Force, under the leadership of Inspector-General of Police IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, reiterated its unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of Nigerians while continuing its fight against all forms of security threats nationwide.
