Tragedy Strikes: Vice Principal and Family Perish in Borno Fire
The Vice Principal of Dugja Bayan Tasha Junior Secondary School in Biu Local Government Area, Malam Aliyu Mohammed, tragically lost his life along with his wife and three children in a devastating fire that engulfed their home on Sunday. The cause of the fire remains unknown, though neighbors have offered details of the family’s desperate attempts to escape the blaze.
According to a resident, Kabiru Musa, the fire began in the living room and rapidly spread, trapping the family inside. “We suspect an electrical spark ignited the fire, which quickly spread throughout the house. It was a heartbreaking situation. I was told that Malam Aliyu Mohammed and his family fought to escape, but the thick smoke and the burglar bars on the windows prevented them from making it out,” Musa explained.
The Southern Borno Progressive Union expressed its deep sorrow, offering condolences to the family and the community. In a statement, they described the loss as a major blow to both the local community and the education sector in Borno State.
“We are deeply saddened by the tragic death of Malam Aliyu Mohammed, Vice Principal of Dugja Bayan Tasha JSS, and his family. His dedication to education and the community will be sorely missed. This loss resonates deeply across the state,” the statement read.
Following Islamic tradition, Malam Aliyu Mohammed and his family were laid to rest in Biu, where the community gathered to mourn the heartbreaking loss of a beloved educator and his family.
