Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has sharply criticized his successor, Governor Uba Sani, accusing him of embarrassingly and sycophantically defending President Bola Tinubu. El-Rufai’s comments come in the wake of Governor Sani’s praise for President Tinubu’s leadership, which the former governor described as politically motivated due to financial incentives.
In a post shared on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, El-Rufai linked Sani’s defense of the president to the more than N150 billion in federal grants, reimbursements, and interventions that the Kaduna State government had received under Tinubu’s administration over the past 18 months. The former governor’s post pointed out that these federal funds seemed to explain Sani’s actions.
Governor Sani, in a recent interview, had dismissed many of El-Rufai’s accusations against President Tinubu, calling them untrue and emphasizing the president’s democratic commitment. “No president in Nigeria’s history has really practiced democracy like President Bola Tinubu,” Sani stated, adding that many politicians who criticized Tinubu were part of previous administrations that failed to make meaningful changes.
El-Rufai, however, responded with sharp criticism, referencing the famous Sherlock Holmes quote: “When you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, is the truth.” He suggested that the large financial transfers from the federal government to Kaduna had motivated Sani’s praise of the president.
“The people of Kaduna State will judge at the right time and place,” El-Rufai wrote, signaling that Sani’s actions would not go unnoticed by the electorate. “Have a nice day. #ConcernedKadunaCitizen.”
As political tensions rise, it’s clear that the ongoing power struggle between the two governors will continue to shape the future of Kaduna State.
