“APC Chieftain Kwankwaso Slams Kano Govt Over Killings During Demolition in Rimin Zakara”

Musa Illiyasu Kwankwaso, an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, has criticized the Kano State Government’s plan to establish a committee to investigate the deaths of four people during a demolition exercise in Rimin Zakara, Kumbotso Local Government Area. Kwankwaso, in a statement signed by him, called on Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and the state commissioners for land and works to personally visit the affected families, express condolences, and offer compensation to the families of the deceased.

Kwankwaso also urged the government to provide alternative land to those whose properties were demolished. He expressed skepticism about the government’s repeated denials of involvement in the exercise, pointing to reports from multiple local radio stations that indicated officials from the Ministry of Land were seen with security personnel during the demolitions.

The APC leader further accused Governor Yusuf of lacking control over his administration, suggesting that he was being manipulated by NNPP leader Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. He warned that this mismanagement could cost the governor the 2027 elections.

Kwankwaso stressed that the incident revealed the dangers of NNPP governance in Kano, which he claimed would lead to suffering and destruction, as evidenced by the demolition in Rimin Zakara. He also expressed his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts to tackle poverty and hunger across Nigeria.

He praised Amnesty International for condemning the killings during the forced eviction, saying, “I stand with Amnesty International in condemning the Kano State Government’s attacks on poor communities, who are being punished for decades of urban planning failures.” Kwankwaso condemned the use of force against the poor, calling it an act of “crude cruelty” and urged the state government to adopt a more humane approach to urban planning that would protect the rights and lives of vulnerable residents.
