“Omo-Agege Tells Oborevwori and Okowa to Stay in PDP, Rejects Their Defection to APC”

Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, the Deputy President of the Senate in the 9th National Assembly, has publicly told Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to remain in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stating that they are not welcome in the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a meeting with APC leaders, elders, and stakeholders on Monday in Ika South and Ika North East Local Government Areas, Omo-Agege, who was the APC governorship candidate in the 2023 Delta State elections, emphasized the growing strength of the APC in the state. He noted that the party has made significant progress, with the only PDP senator in the state planning to join the APC, and several House of Representatives members also preparing to switch allegiances.

Omo-Agege rejected any suggestion that Oborevwori and Okowa would be welcomed into the APC. He stated that while the party is open to receiving other PDP members, including Senator Ned Nwoko, and members of the House of Representatives and Assembly, it has no interest in having Oborevwori and Okowa join its ranks.

He highlighted APC’s success in the 2023 elections, where the party won two senatorial seats and two House of Reps seats, despite claims from the PDP that the APC no longer had a presence in Delta. Omo-Agege pointed out that the APC also secured significant victories in the Delta Central Senatorial District, where he and Oborevwori come from.

The senator further criticized Oborevwori’s administration for trying to undermine the APC’s presence in the state, and noted that even in areas under PDP control, APC still managed to secure 25% of the vote. He reassured APC members that internal issues within the party in Delta would be addressed ahead of the 2027 elections and urged the party to focus on exploiting the PDP’s national crisis, which could make the party irrelevant by then.

Omo-Agege commended President Bola Tinubu’s policies for making the APC the most attractive party in the state. However, he firmly rejected Oborevwori and Okowa’s potential defection, stating, “We have built this party from scratch, and we will not allow people with questionable records to destroy what we have worked hard for.”

He added that while other PDP members would join the APC, Oborevwori and Okowa should remain in the PDP and work on rebuilding their party.

Barr. Felix Morka, the APC National Publicity Secretary, also assured party members that the APC National Chairman and key stakeholders are committed to resolving internal issues within the Delta State chapter before the 2027 elections. Several party leaders at the event, including Hon. Fada Ibudeh, Chief Stevenson Ikpade, Chief Sunny Chuks Obuseh, and others, stressed the importance of genuine reconciliation within the party to ensure victory in 2027.
