The faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) led by Emeka Beke has made serious allegations against Tony Okocha, accusing him of trying to push the former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, out of the party. The Beke faction claims that Okocha’s recent attacks on Amaechi are part of a broader scheme to undermine the influential politician’s position within the APC.
On Monday, Okocha publicly criticized Amaechi, calling him a failed politician who had been unable to bring any significant projects to Rivers State during his tenure as Minister. However, this criticism has sparked a strong response from Amaechi’s supporters within the APC.
Darlington Nwauju, the spokesman for the Beke faction, has called on APC stakeholders to question Okocha’s motives, particularly his tactics of attempting to destroy reputations in order to gain political advantage. In a statement, Nwauju remarked, “Why has former Governor Amaechi’s name become the only currency that Tony Okocha and his group can use for their political trade by batter?”
Nwauju further argued that Okocha’s actions are aimed at creating divisions within the APC, with the ultimate goal of alienating the party’s original stakeholders, like Amaechi, and forcing them out of a party they helped build in Rivers State. The infighting within the party has intensified, raising concerns over the unity of the APC in the region.
