Senator Ned Nwoko Defects from PDP to APC, Cites Party’s Internal Crises

Senator Ned Nwoko, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Reparation and Repatriation, has officially announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The announcement was made during Wednesday’s plenary session, when Senate President Godswill Akpabio read Nwoko’s defection letter on the floor of the Senate. In the letter, titled “Notice of Departure from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC),” Nwoko explained that his decision was driven by the ongoing crises within the PDP, which he believes have rendered it ineffective as a functioning opposition party.

Nwoko expressed deep concerns over the internal divisions and lack of clear leadership in the PDP, stating that the party’s instability threatens Nigeria’s democratic health. He warned that unless urgent steps are taken, Nigeria could face the dangers of a one-party system, which would harm governance and national stability.

The Senator also called for the creation of an Ad-Hoc Committee in the Senate to investigate the internal crisis within the PDP and propose solutions to strengthen Nigeria’s multi-party democracy. He emphasized that the committee should examine the root causes of the party’s dysfunction, engage with stakeholders, and recommend reforms to ensure the survival of a viable opposition.

Despite his defection, Nwoko reassured his constituents in Delta North that he remains committed to serving them and contributing to the progress of the nation. He also requested that his change in party affiliation be duly recorded in the Senate’s records.

Nwoko’s defection marks another significant shift in the dynamic of Nigerian politics, adding to the growing number of political realignments in the country.
