Delta APC Slams Governor Oborevwori Over Neglect of Ijaw Communities’ Development
The Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly condemned the ongoing neglect of crucial infrastructure projects vital to the development of Ijaw communities under Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration. The opposition party voiced its concerns in a statement signed by its publicity secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo, and expressed solidarity with the Ijaw Youth Council in their call for action.
“It is unacceptable that, in this day and age, our communities are left to struggle with such infrastructural deficits while the state government remains indifferent to their plight,” the APC stated.
The party pointed out the continued neglect of key projects, despite the creation of the Directorate of Riverine Development. It argued that Ijaw communities, which have been integral to the socio-economic growth of the state, are being ignored when it comes to the execution of vital infrastructure initiatives under Governor Oborevwori’s leadership.
Specific projects mentioned in the APC’s statement include the Ayakoromo Bridge, Burutu Marine Polytechnic, and important roadways in Ogulagha/Odimodi, Ohoroh/Bomadi, Torugbene/Ojobo, and Erhowa/Abari, which remain abandoned despite numerous calls for action.
The party also criticized the failure to upgrade the Isena-Ibe Teachers Training College in Bomadi to a polytechnic or university, highlighting the administration’s lack of focus on education and skill development in riverine regions.
“The deplorable state of roads in Ogulagha/Odimodi, Ohoroh/Bomadi, Torugbene/Ojobo, and Erhowa/Abari further reflects the administration’s neglect. These roads are essential not only for the economic survival of these communities but also for the safety and well-being of the people,” the APC stated.
The opposition party called on Governor Oborevwori to immediately prioritize the completion and funding of these critical infrastructure projects, stressing that Ijaw communities deserve better than empty promises and unfulfilled plans.
“Governor Oborevwori must stop paying lip service to the development of riverine communities and take real, meaningful action. The Directorate of Riverine Development should not just be a political tool to reward loyalists with appointments, but a genuine force for sustainable growth in our riverine areas,” the APC added.
Standing firm with the Ijaw Youth Council and other riverine community stakeholders, the APC demanded that Governor Oborevwori deliver on his promises and provide the necessary infrastructure to drive true development in Delta State.
