Kano Law School Fire Destroys Students’ Property, Threatens Exams Just Weeks Away

A devastating fire broke out on Wednesday night at the Nigerian Law School Kano Campus, completely destroying the students’ hostel and leaving many students with significant losses. The blaze engulfed the building, consuming students’ belongings, including clothes, credentials, and essential electronic gadgets like laptops.

While the fire caused panic, staff and students were swiftly evacuated from the building, and fortunately, no casualties were reported. However, the incident has left the students deeply distressed, as some lost critical study materials just 14 days before their final bar examinations.

In a statement issued by the Nigerian Law School Muslim Students – Kano Campus, the severity of the damage was confirmed. The students’ group revealed that the fire left those affected with only the clothes they were wearing at the time of the incident.

A video obtained by the press showed students trying to extinguish the flames in the absence of fire service personnel. One student remarked, “I’ve never seen a fire service truck here in the law school.”

At the time of reporting, the management of the Nigerian Law School had yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.

This fire came just one day after a tragic fire claimed the lives of at least 17 children at an Almajiri school in Kauran Namoda, Zamfara State. The fire at the school raged for nearly three hours on Tuesday night, leaving several other children injured, some of whom are currently receiving treatment at local hospitals.

Eyewitnesses described the fire as particularly intense, and while local authorities and emergency responders arrived at the scene, the damage had already been extensive, with significant casualties reported.
