“Fayemi Apologizes to Nigerians for APC’s Failures Over the Years”
John Fayemi, the former Governor of Ekiti State, has publicly apologized to the Nigerian people for the failures of the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the years, acknowledging that the party has not achieved all the promises made to the nation.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, Fayemi, who briefly served as a minister under President Muhammadu Buhari, admitted that the APC has not delivered on its promises, particularly in improving the lives of Nigerians. He expressed regret for the party’s inability to meet expectations and acknowledged that, despite efforts, they could have done more.
“We must apologize to the Nigerian people. We have not succeeded in achieving everything we promised,” Fayemi stated. “And that’s not just because of incompetence, but due to structural impediments that made things difficult for us.”
The former governor further emphasized that leadership should strive to do better for the country and improve the living conditions of Nigerians. “Clearly, we haven’t done enough to make life abundant for the Nigerian people, and for that, I would not hesitate to apologize,” he said. “We can do a lot more.”
Fayemi’s comments come as many Nigerians feel that, despite the APC’s years in power, things have worsened for them. Since the party took office in 2015 under the leadership of former President Buhari, and with Bola Tinubu succeeding him in May 2023, many citizens have expressed disappointment in the government’s policies. Tinubu’s controversial removal of the fuel subsidy on the day of his inauguration further deepened the struggles of millions of Nigerians, plunging them into greater poverty.
Fayemi’s public acknowledgment of the APC’s shortcomings reflects growing discontent and the difficult path ahead for the ruling party in regaining the trust of the Nigerian people.
