“NYSC DG Advises Corps Members to Avoid Shortcuts and Embrace Patience for Success”
The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Yushau Dogara Ahmed, has urged Corps members to resist the temptation of shortcuts in their pursuit of future success.
Speaking to the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream Two Corps Members during their orientation camps in Plateau and Bauchi States, General Ahmed emphasized that achieving success in life requires patience, diligence, and perseverance. He addressed Corps members at the NYSC Plateau State Temporary Orientation Camp in Doi-Du, Jos, and their counterparts at the Bauchi State Orientation Camp in Wailo, Ganjuwa Local Government Area.
He also encouraged Corps members to take full advantage of the NYSC Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme available in camp. The programme offers them the chance to acquire vocational skills that could lead to self-employment and financial independence. General Ahmed stressed the importance of post-camp training in entrepreneurship, urging Corps members not to overlook this valuable opportunity.
The NYSC DG further encouraged the Corps members to use their service year to promote national unity, integrate with their host communities, and make a meaningful impact in their environments. He reminded them that their service to the nation is not just about individual achievement, but about contributing to the country’s growth and development.
In his report to the Director General, the NYSC Plateau State Coordinator, Mr. Jonathan Yavala, stated that 1,957 Corps Members—comprising 982 males and 975 females—had been registered and were adapting well to camp life. Similarly, Bauchi State Coordinator, Mrs. Rifkatu Daniel, reported that 1,641 Corps Members—761 males and 880 females—had also been successfully registered.
Both coordinators commended the Corps members for their high levels of patriotism, diligence, and enthusiasm, highlighting their commitment to the goals of the Orientation Course.
