Delta PDP Fires Back at APC: “We’ll Reclaim Lost Seats in 2027”
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State has sent a strong message to the All Progressives Congress (APC), branding it inconsequential ahead of the 2027 general elections. This declaration came during the official inauguration of the Executive Members of the Ethiope Federal Constituency PDP Forum, with Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Emomotimi Guwor, leading the charge.
At the event held on Friday, Guwor, the special guest of honor, dismissed the recent defection of Hon. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, the constituency’s House of Representatives member, to the APC. He assured the gathering that the PDP would swiftly reclaim the vacant seat, underlining the party’s continued dominance in the region.
“The APC is being relegated to political irrelevance in Ethiope Federal Constituency come 2027,” Guwor said, pointing to the presence of key political figures from Ethiope East and West Local Government Areas at the inauguration as a sign of the PDP’s unshakable position in the constituency.
Guwor also rallied support for Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, praising his transformative leadership in the state. He emphasized that Governor Oborevwori’s prudent management of resources ensured no borrowing would be necessary to fund upcoming state projects.
In his remarks, the State PDP Chairman, Chief Solomon Arenyeka, echoed the sentiment, dismissing the defection of several party members as inconsequential. He assured the enthusiastic crowd that these defectors would return to the PDP after the 2027 elections, as they lacked the political structures to challenge the party. Arenyeka also reaffirmed confidence in Dr. Ighoyota Amori, the newly inaugurated Chairman of the Ethiope Federal Constituency PDP Forum, to maintain the party’s dominance.
“We are confident in the leadership of Dr. Amori and the strength of our party. The APC will have no place in our political landscape,” Arenyeka said, adding that the party’s success under Governor Oborevwori would lead to further electoral victories, including reclaiming lost senatorial seats.
Deputy Speaker Rt Hon Arthur Akpowowo also took the stage, reiterating that Ethiope Federal Constituency remained a PDP stronghold. He emphasized that the APC’s recent defections were politically damaging for those involved, particularly Hon. Ibori-Suenu, whose departure from the party was deemed unlawful under the 1999 Constitution.
Chief John Oguma, PDP leader in Ughelli South, took aim at the APC, dismissing it as a party that “exists only on social media” in the region. He assured the gathering that the PDP would reclaim the three senatorial seats lost to the opposition and win decisively in 2027, due to Governor Oborevwori’s impactful governance.
In his address, Dr. Amori, Chairman of the Ethiope Federal Constituency PDP Forum, declared that the constituency would crush the APC in the upcoming elections. He also announced plans for a mega rally at Oghara Township Stadium, aiming to showcase the PDP’s continued political dominance.
As the ceremony concluded, the leadership of the PDP reaffirmed its position with a vote of confidence in Governor Oborevwori’s administration. Proposed by Rt Hon Ben Igbakpa and seconded by Rt Hon Arthur Akpowowo, the motion was formally adopted by the Speaker, Rt Hon Guwor, signaling the party’s united front as it prepares for the 2027 elections.
