Sowore Warns of Dangers in a Society Without Activism
Nigerian human rights activist and former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has issued a stark warning about the perils of living in a society devoid of activism. Sowore, a long-time advocate for social and political change, expressed his concerns on social media, stating that a society without activists is ripe for exploitation and oppression by “malevolent forces.”
He wrote: “Any society devoid of activists is a society that is unjustly placed between a pestle and a mortar, to be pummeled by all sorts of malevolent forces! #RevolutionNow. It is the principal ambition of oppressive forces that there are no activists, dissenters, conscientious objectors.”
Sowore’s comments have sparked discussions about the importance of activism in safeguarding democracy and justice. His message serves as a call to action, urging citizens to become more involved in promoting fairness and holding those in power accountable for their actions.
As the leader of the #RevolutionNow movement, Sowore has consistently advocated for political and social reforms in Nigeria. His activism recently focused on calls for reforming the Nigerian Police Force. In particular, Sowore has been vocal in his criticisms of Muyiwa Adejobi, the police Force Public Relations Officer.
Sowore accused Adejobi of attempting to have him arrested multiple times, describing him as “evil” for allegedly trying to orchestrate his detention. Sowore further claimed that Adejobi’s efforts were thwarted until the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Dasuki D. Galadanchi, stepped in, leading to his eventual arrest. The activist also accused Adejobi of exerting undue influence over his superiors within the police force.
Despite these confrontations, Sowore’s resolve remains strong, and he continues to call for broader societal engagement to fight against systemic injustices and to push for genuine reforms.
