TAN Calls for Unity and Peace in Kaduna, Rejects Political Chaos
The Transparency and Accountability Network (TAN) has issued a strong warning that it will not allow the political ambitions of individuals to push Kaduna State into further crisis. This comes after a public clash between former Governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai and his successor, Senator Uba Sani, which has raised concerns about the state’s stability.
In a statement released on Friday, the National Coordinator of TAN, Comrade Michael Briggs, expressed alarm over the fragile peace in Kaduna, which he fears could be threatened by ongoing political tensions. Briggs emphasized that the people of Kaduna have already suffered enough — from bloodshed, tears, and despair — and cannot afford to endure further strife.
TAN stressed that the state, still recovering from the effects of recent insecurity, should not be jeopardized by the ambitions of a few individuals prioritizing power over the people. “The people of Kaduna are not pawns to be moved across a chessboard by political actors. They are the heart and soul of the state, deserving of peace, dignity, and opportunity,” the group stated.
Describing the current peace as a “delicate sapling,” TAN warned that the state cannot afford to let it be uprooted by those seeking to exploit chaos for their own gain. The group called on the National Security Adviser (NSA) to intervene swiftly to prevent further escalation.
TAN further appealed to political actors and community leaders, urging them to reject divisive rhetoric and violence. “The path to power must never be paved with the broken dreams and shattered lives of the innocent,” the statement emphasized.
The group underscored the need to prioritize the well-being of Kaduna’s citizens above political interests, reminding everyone that the fate of the state is in the hands of its leaders, who must act responsibly to avoid plunging the state back into chaos.
