Monoyo Edon, a former Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to ex-Delta Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and a chairmanship aspirant for Warri South Local Government Area (LGA), has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Edon, who had been a loyal member since 2021, expressed his discontent with the party’s reward system and its lack of openness to new ideas, which he believes hindered his personal growth and aspirations.
In a letter addressed to the Obodo/Ubeji 1 ward chairman, Mr. Allen Mayuku, Edon explained that his decision to leave the party was based on what he described as the “uncanny” approach the party takes in rewarding its members. He also voiced concerns over the party’s failure to accept and embrace progressive ideas, particularly in Warri South, where he had hoped to make a difference.
Edon highlighted his contributions to the PDP, including his active involvement in the 2023 general elections, which resulted in the victory of Sheriff F.O. Oborevwori as Governor of Delta State. He also briefly served as Special Assistant to Governor Okowa but became increasingly disillusioned with the party’s culture and its inability to support new leadership and progressive change.
In his resignation letter, Edon stated: “It is not in my character to remain in a place averse to my progress, contribution, and aspiration.” He also expressed his gratitude to his mentors within the party, such as Dcn Victor Agbateyiniro and Mr. Ewetan Okerentie, for introducing him to the PDP and supporting him during his time there.
As Edon steps away from the PDP, his resignation highlights growing frustrations with the party’s internal dynamics, especially among young, ambitious members seeking opportunities for growth and leadership.
