“Waroh Accuses Gov Alia of Failing to Tackle Security Crisis in Benue”
Abraham Waroh, the Benue North East Zonal Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has criticized the administration of Governor Hyacinth Alia for its failure to address the escalating security challenges in the state.
Speaking with journalists on Monday at the PDP state secretariat in Makurdi, Waroh expressed his discontent over Alia’s inability to fulfill his promise of tackling insecurity. According to Waroh, the people of Benue voted for Alia in the hope that he would bring about change and improve security, but instead, the situation has worsened.
“An honest assessment of the current situation in the state shows that the people are suffering from unprecedented insecurity and a general decline in their standard of living,” Waroh stated. “Alia promised to change the narrative, but unfortunately, the state has regressed, and we are now dealing with severe security problems.”
Waroh further explained that Alia’s administration had failed to protect the people from killer herdsmen, who have significantly worsened the state’s security crisis. He described the rise in violence as a “cancerous tumor” that has deeply affected the state.
“The security situation is dire,” Waroh said. “Fulani herdsmen have taken over large parts of the state, and people are being killed daily with no meaningful response from the governor. Areas like Sankera are effectively under occupation by these herders, and many residents have been displaced.”
He also pointed to the recent killings in Otukpo, where a mass burial was held for the victims, as a clear indication of the failure of Alia’s leadership. “These killings are heartbreaking, and the response from the government has been woefully inadequate,” Waroh lamented.
Despite these criticisms, Waroh said the opposition would cooperate with Governor Alia to ensure the state functions smoothly for the remainder of his tenure, but he made it clear that the PDP would seek to take over the leadership in 2027.
“It is clear that this government has failed the people of Benue. We will cooperate with Alia for the next two years, but come 2027, we are prepared to bring change and restore the leadership that the people deserve,” Waroh concluded.
