“NBA Calls for Nominations to Appoint Six New Judges to Federal High Court”
The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has announced a call for nominations from its members to fill six vacant judicial positions on the Federal High Court. This request follows an official notice from the Honourable Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Hon. Justice John T. Tsoho, highlighting the need to appoint new judges.
In a statement issued by the NBA’s Publicity Secretary, Bridget Edokwe, the association urged its members to nominate qualified candidates from specific states: Cross River, Federal Capital Territory, Kwara, Nasarawa, Sokoto, and Zamfara. The NBA stressed the critical importance of ensuring that all nominees possess the necessary qualifications, experience, and ethical standards required for appointment to the Federal High Court.
As part of the appointment process, the NBA’s role is to recommend suitable candidates to the Honourable Chief Judge, adhering to the National Judicial Council (NJC) Guidelines and Procedural Rules for appointing Judicial Officers.
Members of the NBA have been given a deadline of Monday, March 24, 2025, to submit their nominations to the NBA Secretariat. This timeline is set to ensure the proper collation of submissions before forwarding them to the Chief Judge by the final deadline of Monday, March 31, 2025.
