The Edo State House of Assembly has officially relieved all its political appointees of their positions. Speaker Blessing Agbebaku made the announcement at Tuesday’s plenary session, revealing that the decision was made by all 24 members of the House.
Agbebaku stated that the termination of the appointments takes immediate effect, but the appointees will receive their February salaries. He explained that the affected appointees included Special Advisers and Senior Special Advisers, among others, who were initially appointed by the 8th Assembly when it assumed office in June 2023.
The Speaker emphasized that the decision was collectively agreed upon after nearly two years of service, and the House would meet to discuss the next steps.
