The Lagos State Traditional Medicine Board (LSTMB), in collaboration with officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, has sealed six traditional medicine facilities operating without proper registration and with outdated documentation in various parts of Lagos Mainland.
In a statement released on Saturday, the enforcement action was revealed to be the result of repeated notifications and warnings issued to the affected facilities. These communications urged the facilities to approach the board for registration and compliance with the Lagos State Health Sector Reform Law of 2015.
Babatunde Adele, the Registrar of the LSTMB, underscored the government’s zero-tolerance policy towards non-compliance with regulatory standards. He emphasized that the board had undertaken numerous awareness campaigns through print media and radio jingles to educate practitioners about the importance of proper registration, especially amid growing concerns about quackery within the Traditional, Complementary, and Alternative Medicine sectors.
Adele further warned that any practitioners found violating the law would face penalties as stipulated in the Lagos State Health Sector Reform Law 2015. He assured the public that the board would continue to rigorously monitor compliance and enforce regulations to protect public health.
“The board remains committed to safeguarding public health by enforcing strict compliance with regulatory provisions,” Adele added, confirming that these enforcement efforts would continue to deter future violations in the sector.
