“Oyo APC Warns Governor Makinde Against Interfering in Osun Affairs”
The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a stern warning to Governor Seyi Makinde, urging him to refrain from interfering in the affairs of Osun State. The statement, signed by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Wasiu Olawale Sadare
The APC’s caution follows remarks made by Governor Makinde during the swearing-in of newly elected local government chairmen in Osogbo, Osun State, on Sunday. In his speech, Makinde had warned the APC against actions that could destabilize the current democratic dispensation.
However, Oyo APC strongly condemned Makinde’s involvement, calling it an attempt to sow division in Osun State. According to Sadare, Makinde’s appearance at the ceremony was part of a “show of shame” orchestrated by his party, designed to undermine the efforts of President Bola Tinubu’s administration in strengthening democracy at the grassroots level.
Sadare criticized Makinde for embarrassing the people of Oyo State by participating in what he called a mockery of constitutional democracy and the rule of law. He accused Makinde of deliberately making provocative comments to challenge President Tinubu’s stance on local government autonomy, which aims to free local governments from the control of state governors.
The Oyo APC spokesperson described Makinde’s actions as that of a “meddlesome interloper” and warned that such behavior would only inflame tensions in Osun State. He further alleged that Makinde was aligning himself with “anti-democratic forces” in Osun and joining Governor Ademola Adeleke in fostering violence and instability for personal gain.
“Governor Makinde’s appearance at the swearing-in ceremony and his unguarded comments have caused a great deal of embarrassment to the people of Oyo State,” Sadare said. “We urge him to stay out of Osun’s internal matters and encourage Governor Adeleke to embrace peace and democratic principles.”
The statement concluded by reiterating that Makinde’s interference in Osun politics could escalate tensions and jeopardize the peace of the neighboring state.
