In a startling turn of events, all police escorts assigned to the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mojisola Meranda, and those securing the Assembly complex have been abruptly withdrawn. This unexpected decision has left both the Speaker and the legislative building exposed to potential security threats.
Confirming the development, the Speaker’s Special Adviser on Information, Mr. Victor Ganzallo, expressed grave concern about the sudden loss of security. “As we speak, all security has been withdrawn from the Speaker, and she is now on her own,” Ganzallo said, highlighting the Speaker’s vulnerability.
He emphasized that the Speaker is now at risk, warning that she is “vulnerable and open to attack.” He also called for urgent action to address this security lapse, underscoring the need for swift resolution to safeguard both the Speaker and the Assembly.
The reasons behind the security withdrawal remain unclear, as no official statements have been issued by the Lagos State Police Command or the state government. This development raises serious concerns about the safety of government officials and the security of the Lagos State Assembly premises, calling into question the safety protocols in place for such high-ranking individuals.
