Afenifere Urges Protection for NAFDAC DG
The Pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, has called on President Bola Tinubu to enhance security around the Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, following reported threats to her life.
In a statement issued by its Organizing Secretary, Abagun Kole Omololu, Afenifere expressed serious concern over Adeyeye’s distress call regarding threats not only to her life but also to the lives of her staff. The group emphasized the importance of her work in Nigeria’s fight against counterfeit drugs, harmful consumables, and criminal syndicates, urging that any threat to her life is an attack on public health and national security.
Omololu underscored the critical nature of Adeyeye’s role, highlighting that her sacrifice for the greater good must not be ignored. “Nigeria cannot afford to abandon those who risk everything for the greater good,” he stated.
The group also called for comprehensive security provisions for other key public officials such as the Chairman of the EFCC and the head of the NDLEA. Afenifere recommended the provision of armored vehicles, elite security personnel, and advanced surveillance systems for these officials, along with security for their families.
Afenifere further warned that neglecting the security of these officials would embolden criminals and weaken national institutions. “This is a battle for national survival, and the stakes could not be higher,” Omololu added.
The group urged President Tinubu to act quickly to upgrade security for Prof. Adeyeye, her family, and her staff, recognizing her commitment to the country and ensuring her protection in return for her service.
