376 Illegal Immigrants Arrested in Ogun State for Fraud Plans
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has arrested 376 illegal immigrants in Ogun State, who were found to be at various stages of plotting to defraud unsuspecting Nigerians. The arrest took place during a joint operation by officers from the Ogun State Command and Zone A headquarters, following credible intelligence that led them to the hideouts in the Lambe/Ajuwon Akute areas of the state.
According to Muhammed Akadri, the Comptroller of the Ogun State Command, the profiling of the suspects revealed a diverse group of foreign nationals, including 334 Cameroonians, 27 Ghanaians, one Togolese, and 26 Beninese. The arrested individuals were aged between 25 and 30 years, comprising 251 males and 125 females.
All of the immigrants were found to have entered the country through unauthorized routes, and none could produce residence cards or any form of travel documentation when questioned by the authorities.
The Comptroller further stated that the Comptroller General of the NIS, Kemi Nandap, has given orders for the immediate repatriation of the detainees to their respective countries.
This operation highlights the NIS’s ongoing efforts to curb illegal immigration and prevent fraudulent schemes targeting Nigerians. The Service has assured that all necessary measures will be taken to send the arrested individuals back to their countries of origin.
