A Magistrate Court in Osogbo has sentenced two individuals, Sikiru Raheem and Azeezat Afeez, to prison terms for theft and burglary. Raheem, who was found guilty of stealing a high-value vehicle, was sentenced to seven years in prison, while Afeez received a two-year sentence for burglary.
The two were arraigned before Magistrate M. A. Olatunji, charged under Sections 390(9), 249, and 412 of the Criminal Code of Osun State for burglary and causing a breach of the peace, as outlined by the Prosecuting Counsel, Oyedele Akintayo, who represented the Attorney General of Osun State.
Magistrate Olatunji, in delivering the verdict, emphasized that the actions of the accused violated the laws of the state and thus warranted the punishment prescribed under the Criminal Code.
According to the Corps Commander of the Osun Amotekun Corps, Adekunle Isaac Omoyele, the suspects were arrested in separate locations within Osogbo after reports of their criminal activities were received. Omoyele credited the swift action of Amotekun personnel for leading to the quick apprehension of the criminals.
Sikiru Raheem, a 30-year-old man, was arrested for stealing a Ford Jeep valued at N7,000,000 from the Oke-Onitea area of Osogbo. During interrogation, Raheem confessed to the theft, stating that he intended to sell the vehicle for N1.5 million. He also admitted that this was not his first involvement in such crimes.
Azeez Afeez, aged 20, was arrested on February 23, 2025, for breaking into a residence and stealing several items, including a standing fan, torchlight, TV cables, solar radio, a bag of bulbs, wires, an MP3 player, and two mobile phones, with a total value of N420,000. The stolen goods belonged to two victims, Oyagbile Bose and Mrs. Adebisi Grace. Azeez confessed that his motive was to sell the items for personal gain and also admitted that he had committed similar offenses in the past.
The Osun Amotekun Corps continues to urge the public to remain alert and report any suspicious activities as part of their ongoing efforts to maintain law and order. Omoyele emphasized that the prosecution and conviction of these offenders serves as a warning to others involved in criminal activities, further demonstrating the Corps’ commitment to ensuring a safe environment for all Osun residents.
