General Tsiga, the former Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has been released by his captors, a source confirmed to Channels Television on Friday night. The source added that Tsiga is currently receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital, though the exact location is being kept secret for security reasons.
The abduction, which occurred on February 6, 2025, saw Tsiga taken from his residence in Tsiga village, located in the Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State, by a group of bandits led by the notorious kingpin Babaro. The gunmen initially demanded a ransom of N250 million for Tsiga’s release, though it remains unclear whether any payment was made to secure his freedom.
Despite Tsiga’s release, government officials and security agencies, including the Katsina State Police Command, have yet to make a formal comment on the matter. The exact details surrounding the negotiation and his release remain under wraps.
During the abduction, two people were injured in the attack. Interestingly, one of the gunmen was accidentally shot dead by a member of his own gang during the raid.
The ongoing investigation and the efforts of security forces to curb banditry in the region remain crucial as residents and officials continue to address the growing threats posed by criminal groups in Katsina and surrounding areas.
