Wike Laughs to the Bank While Nigerians Starve—Ejiofor Exposes

Prominent social critic and former IPOB lead lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, has accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, of wasting public funds by hosting what he described as a “lavish and substance-free” monthly media chat, allegedly costing hundreds of millions of naira.

In a scathing press statement titled “Extravagance in a Time of Hardship – President Tinubu Must Curb FCT Minister Wike’s Costly Media Show,” Ejiofor condemned the practice as both tone-deaf and fiscally irresponsible, especially at a time when many Nigerians are grappling with record-high inflation, stagnant wages, and worsening poverty.

“It is regrettable that while millions of Nigerians survive on less than $2 a day and face daily challenges in accessing basic healthcare, education, and shelter, the FCT Minister indulges in what amounts to a televised circus,” Ejiofor said.

He argued that the funds allocated to just one edition of Wike’s media engagement could have been better used to provide emergency aid to flood victims in Niger State, rehabilitate dilapidated schools, or support malnourished children in IDP camps.

“The optics are disheartening. The implications are worse,” Ejiofor stated. “Nigerians are not asking for a monthly media spectacle—they’re demanding effective leadership, fiscal discipline, and people-focused governance.”

He called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently intervene, urging him to reprimand Wike and halt the spending, redirecting those resources to actual service delivery that benefits everyday Nigerians.

“This is not a time for flamboyance and fanfare. It is a moment that demands humility, responsibility, and an unwavering commitment to the public good. Nigeria deserves better. The time to act is now,” he concluded.
