SSS Seeks Court Ban on Utomi’s Shadow Government Activities

A senior lawyer representing the State Security Service (SSS) has asked the Federal High Court in Abuja to grant an interlocutory injunction preventing Professor Pat Utomi from making further public statements or organizing events linked to his proposed “shadow government.”

The request was filed on Wednesday, with the lawyer, Kehinde, emphasizing that the SSS is not seeking Utomi’s arrest. Instead, the agency has chosen to resolve the matter through legal channels, asking the court to interpret whether forming a shadow government is constitutional.

“Our client believes in due process and has always submitted itself to the rule of law,” Kehinde told reporters. “This is about interpreting the Constitution and ensuring the rights and responsibilities of all parties are respected.”

The lawyer stressed the importance of maintaining democratic norms and urged the media to follow the case closely. He noted that the SSS, acting within its legal mandate, filed the lawsuit to protect internal security and prevent any threats of insurrection or treason.

According to Kehinde, even after being served with court papers, Utomi has continued making public comments and organizing events that the SSS believes could incite unrest. “Civilized parties should maintain the status quo while a case is in court,” he said.

The new legal filing asks the court to ban Utomi and his associates from holding public rallies, roadshows, lectures, or media appearances that promote the shadow government, until the main case is decided.

The SSS argues that without this injunction, Utomi’s actions pose a serious threat to public order and national unity.
