Minister Umahi Urges President Tinubu To Boost Funding For Critical Infrastructure
Minister of Works, David Umahi, has called on President Bola Tinubu to release additional funds to accelerate the execution of critical infrastructural projects across Nigeria.
Making the appeal during the official commissioning of the Deep Sea Port Access Road in Lagos on Thursday, Umahi urged the president to disregard critics and prioritize funding for ongoing projects.
The minister revealed that international financiers have praised the project, even describing it as undervalued. “I want to assure you, sir, that the international financiers have given you kudos because they say the project is even undervalued,” he said.
Umahi also addressed concerns from some quarters questioning the cost of the Deep Sea Port Access Road, emphasizing the complexities involved in its construction.
“To those demanding to know the cost because they suspect inflation and corruption, I say this: I am a Fellow of the Society of Engineers. I understand these figures and this work,” he stated.
He thanked President Tinubu for commissioning the first 30 kilometers of the road and assured that this section will be completed by December. Umahi added that the road will be tolled, and the second section is nearing completion.
“I commend the contractor very highly,” he concluded.
