Gwer West LGA Bans ‘iron condemn dealers’ to Curb Security Risks

The Gwer West Local Government Council has imposed an immediate ban on all scrap iron dealers—commonly known as “iron condemn dealers”—within its jurisdiction.

The directive, announced by Executive Chairman Hon. Ormin Torsar Victor, is part of intensified efforts to address growing security challenges and restore peace in the area.

Chairman Torsar warned that anyone found trading in scrap iron, especially materials transported from conflict-prone or urban areas, would face arrest and prosecution under the law.

In a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Timothy Ajieje, residents were urged to stay alert and report any suspicious scrap-related activities to security agencies promptly.

“This measure aims to safeguard lives and property. We call on security agencies and the community to fully support the enforcement of this ban,” the statement emphasized.
