Sowore Vows to Sue President Tinubu If Given National Award, Rejects Honor

Popular socio-political activist Omoyele Sowore has declared that he would take legal action against President Bola Tinubu if he were included in the National Award list for 2025.

On Thursday, President Tinubu released the official list of 102 awardees for the upcoming Democracy Day National Honours, recognizing Nigerians—both living and deceased—who have significantly contributed to the nation’s democratic journey.

While many expected activists like Sowore to be among the honorees, the former presidential candidate used his official Facebook page on Friday to reject any such recognition.

Sowore stated emphatically that if he were mistakenly listed by President Tinubu, he would not only reject and denounce the award but also pursue legal action for defamation.

He wrote, “If I were mistakenly included by Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his ‘National Award’ list, I would not only reject and denounce the award but also take definitive legal action for defamation.”
