2025 Showdown: Anambra Women Won’t Betray Soludo for Ekwunife – APGA Roars
As the 2025 Anambra governorship election draws closer, tensions are beginning to rise between political camps especially over the role of women voters in determining the next occupant of the Government House in Awka.
In a fiery statement issued on Monday in Awka, Evangelist Chinedu Obigwe, National Coordinator of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Media Warriors Forum, dismissed recent mobilization efforts by Senator Uche Ekwunife, the running mate to the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, as doomed to fail.
Obigwe accused Ekwunife of attempting to sway Anambra women against the incumbent Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, adding that such a move is a “political miscalculation” rooted in “historical amnesia.”
“Anambra women are wiser and politically aware,” he said. “They cannot be deceived by empty rhetoric. They trust in Governor Soludo’s agenda, which has already begun transforming lives across the state.”
Obigwe also issued a stinging reminder of Ekwunife’s alleged role during the administration of the late Governor Chinwoke Mbadinuju, claiming she was a “key background influencer” in what many regard as one of the most tumultuous periods in Anambra’s political history.
“Let me refresh the memory of our people,” he said. “Uche Ekwunife was a key player in the failed administration of late Chinwoke Mbadinuju. Though she held no official post, her influence was well known and contributed to many of that government’s failures.”
He pointed to the almost year-long closure of public schools under Mbadinuju’s leadership due to unpaid teachers’ salaries, a crisis that severely crippled the state’s education sector. “That dark era is still fresh in the minds of Ndi Anambra,” he added.
Taking a swipe at the APC ticket of Nicholas Ukachukwu and Uche Ekwunife, Obigwe declared their joint candidacy as “dead on arrival.”
“Ekwunife lacks the moral justification to lead or mobilize anyone in this state. She and Ukachukwu are birds of the same feather, with no credible blueprint for Anambra’s future,” he said.
In contrast, Obigwe praised the Soludo-led administration for steering the state in a progressive direction, citing notable initiatives such as free antenatal and delivery services, tuition-free primary and secondary education, and the 1Youth 2Skills empowerment programme.
“These are not just policies; they are life-changing programs that directly impact the daily lives of our women and youths,” he said. “That is why our women will not listen to Ekwunife. They have seen the difference and will vote for continuity.”
He concluded with a resounding declaration: “It is Soludo for Governor till March 17, 2030, or nothing.”
With both sides ramping up rhetoric and mobilization ahead of the November 8 poll, it is clear the battle for the soul of Anambra especially the hearts of its women will be one to watch closely.
