Wike: FCT Land for Real Farmers, Not Speculators
Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has declared that only genuine farmers will benefit from land allocations in the FCT, warning that there is no space for land speculators disguised as farmers.
Wike made the statement on Monday while inaugurating the newly constructed 15-kilometre A2 to Pai Road in Kwali Area Council, as part of the ongoing 17-day project commissioning to mark the second anniversary of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
Emphasising the role of agriculture in tackling Nigeria’s food crisis, Wike said the FCT Administration (FCTA) under his leadership is ready to compensate host communities and allocate land for farming — but only to those genuinely interested in agriculture.
“We are talking about food security. Those of you who want to be real farmers, we are ready to give you farmland after compensating the communities,” Wike stated. “But we are not interested in political farmers who hoard the land for speculation and sell it when development arrives.”
The Minister also credited the success of FCTA projects to the unwavering support of President Tinubu.
“You can give someone an appointment, but without your backing, nothing happens,” Wike said. “But when you give support to the person you’ve appointed, there’s progress, the people are happy, and when the people are happy, everyone — including those at the Villa — will be happy.”
The road project is one of several initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure and boosting agriculture in rural parts of the FCT.
