‘The Guy Is Gone’: El-Rufai Declares Tinubu’s Presidency a Failure
Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has delivered a damning verdict on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, declaring bluntly that “the guy is gone.”
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Monday evening, El-Rufai said the Tinubu administration has failed across key sectors, including security, the economy, and trade, just two years into his presidency.
“We have to ask Nigerians: Do you like what is happening? Has your life improved since Tinubu was sworn in on May 29, 2023?” El-Rufai asked. “If yes, fine. But if not, why not give other people a chance?”
El-Rufai claimed that recent polls conducted by his team show a staggering 91% disapproval rating for Tinubu in the North and Southeast. Even in Lagos, Tinubu’s stronghold, the former governor said the disapproval rating stands at 78%.
“In the Southwest, Tinubu is doing marginally better in states like Ondo and Ekiti, but nowhere is he enjoying up to 50% approval,” El-Rufai added.
He painted a bleak picture of the country’s direction, accusing the president of stalling the economy, failing to address insecurity, and lacking clear trade and investment strategies.
“They are collecting huge revenues, but where is the money going? There are no visible results,” he stated.
El-Rufai, now a chieftain of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), urged Nigerians to start thinking beyond the current administration as the 2027 general election approaches, hinting at the need for leadership change.
