NBA Ibadan Launches Remuneration Account for Legal Fees on Title Documents
The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ibadan Branch, has formally commenced the implementation of the Remuneration Order within the jurisdiction of the branch in a bid to address the longstanding issue of underpayment of legal practitioners.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by Michael Akinwumi, the Publicity Secretary of the branch, the move follows a resolution passed during the general meeting held at the Bar Centre on March 1, 2025.
According to Akinwumi, the leadership of the branch and its Remuneration Committee have now put in place modalities to ensure that lawyers in Ibadan are fairly remunerated for legal services rendered, particularly in the preparation of title documents.
To facilitate compliance, the branch has opened a dedicated Remuneration Account at Access Bank with account number 1931305381, through which all payments for title documents prepared by legal practitioners must now be made. Members are required to collect the verification number and official form at the Bar Centre.
“All members of the branch are implored to adhere strictly to this new development,” the statement reads. “Members whose clients have made payment into the remuneration account should visit the Bar Centre for a copy of the NBA seal to be affixed to the agreement.”
Akinwumi noted that the initiative is a proactive measure aimed at upholding the dignity of the legal profession by enforcing fair compensation standards.
For further inquiries, members have been directed to contact the Branch Chairman, Mr. Ibrahim Lawal, or the Chairman of the Remuneration Committee, Mr. Oluwaseun Abimbola, SAN.
The statement also included a sample of the NBA seal to guide members in the implementation process.
