“Come Back Home!” – Governor Bala Urges Peter Obi to Rejoin PDP in Bold Unity Call

Come Back Home!’ – Bauchi Governor Bala Mohammed Urges Peter Obi to Rejoin PDP in Passionate Unity Appeal

In a striking political gesture, Bauchi State Governor and PDP Governors Forum Chairman, Bala Mohammed, has publicly called on Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) — saying the opposition must unite to save Nigeria from deepening political and economic distress.

Mohammed made the bold appeal during Obi’s visit to the Bauchi Government House on Friday, hailing him for introducing a “new brand of politics” focused on governance, empathy, and public service.

“Your Excellency, my brother, we are really delighted by the new lease of life you bring to Nigerian politics,” Bala declared, in the presence of journalists and Obi’s supporters, including members of the Obidient Movement.

Commending Obi’s legacy in health and education during his tenure as Anambra governor, Mohammed said Obi’s vision reflects the transformative leadership Nigeria desperately needs.

“You’ve spoken on two critical sectors — health and education. We know what you did in Anambra, and this is the kind of roadmap Nigeria needs,” he said.

Dismissing tokenistic leadership practices, the Bauchi governor emphasized that politics must go beyond seasonal populism.

“Politics is not about sharing rice during Sallah or Christmas. It’s about knowing where the shoe pinches — and acting,” he added.

Mohammed stressed that a fractured opposition only strengthens the ruling party, warning that personal egos must not derail national progress.

“The PDP, LP, ADC, SDP — we must harmonize. Nigerian politics cannot thrive on division. We must unite to confront this Goliath and return Nigeria to the path of progress,” he stated.

Delivering a pointed message to Obi, the governor said:

“I told you last night, and I’ll say it again publicly — we want you back in the PDP. That’s where you belong. Don’t go anywhere else.”

He also accused the APC-led administration of lacking a coherent economic and governance strategy, claiming:

“There’s no budget, no plan — just politics. We need strategy, empathy, and courage.”

In response, Obi acknowledged Mohammed’s warmth and called for collaboration beyond party lines, insisting that development, not division, must define the future.

“I came to Bauchi not just to visit two nursing schools, but to sit with my brother to discuss how we can solve the problems of our people — together,” Obi said.

He reiterated his long-standing call for a political culture shift:

“It’s no longer about us; it’s about our country. Politics must become a tool for development — driven by competence, capacity, and compassion.”

Obi also made charitable donations of ₦15 million during his visit — ₦10 million to Malkiya College of Nursing Sciences, and ₦5 million to Intisharu Taufizul Quranic Islamic School in Yelwa. He emphasized the vital role of nurses, stating:

“Nurses are the heartbeat of the health system — sometimes even more important than doctors.”

At the Islamic school, he highlighted the need to blend religious education with skills in Maths and English to empower children for modern realities.

In a separate youth engagement, Obi addressed Student Union Government (SUG) presidents, where he reaffirmed his vow to serve only one four-year term if elected president.

“Longevity in office does not equal leadership. What counts is purposeful, accountable service — however brief.”
