“Challenge Acts Of Impunity” — NBA-SPIDEL Forms 20-Member Public Interest Litigation Committee
The Nigerian Bar Association Section on Public Interest and Development Law (NBA-SPIDEL) has constituted a Public Interest Litigation Committee to address acts of impunity, lawlessness, and violations of the Constitution by both public and private entities.
The development follows the appointment of a Transitional Committee for NBA-SPIDEL by the President of the Nigerian Bar Association. Announcing the committee’s formation, Chairman of NBA-SPIDEL, Prof. Paul Ananaba, SAN, said it comprises prominent public interest litigation practitioners across Nigeria.
According to Prof. Ananaba, the committee’s mandate is to challenge executive, legislative, and administrative actions of various governments and their agencies that breach the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and other laws. It is also tasked with tackling actions by private entities that undermine public interest, safety, law, and order.

Highlighting the significance of the committee, Prof. Ananaba explained that NBA-SPIDEL is the arm of the NBA dedicated to propagating the association’s core values, which include the promotion of the rule of law, human rights, constitutionalism, and ensuring due process in the activities of government and its agencies.
He added that the Litigation Committee will serve as a crucial arm of the Section, deploying the powerful instrument of public interest litigation and advocacy to ensure the legal profession reclaims its place as the bastion and custodian of these values.
