“First Time Not Sinful” — Catholic Priest Says Initial Viewing Of Emmanson Video Understandable But Repeat Watches Require Confession
A Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Ehioma, has called on those who repeatedly viewed a viral video of Ibom Air passenger Comfort Emmanson, which captured her partially exposed during an altercation, to seek confession.
The video, widely circulated on X, showed Emmanson striking a flight attendant and clashing with airport security before being forcibly removed from the aircraft, resulting in her clothes tearing and exposing her breasts.
The Catholic priest, in a Facebook post on Tuesday, August 12, stated that while watching Comfort Emmanson’s video the first time was not sinful due to its unexpected content, subsequent viewings indicated an inappropriate intent.
“But if you went back to watch it again, you have to go for confession,” he wrote, comparing repeated viewing to consuming pornography.
He further expressed disappointment, saying, “The second, third, fourth and other times you went back… were because of your hunger to see her nude… It is really regrettable to see husbands, fathers, and even wives and mothers describing a lady’s breasts. Kindly meet your Priest and confess to the Lord.”
Ibom Air has banned Emmanson from its flights, and the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) condemned the spread of the unedited footage, pledging pro bono legal support to protect her rights and pursue redress for any violations she suffered.
