Amaechi: You can’t fix Nigeria in four years – El-Rufai to Peter Obi on one-term presidency

Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has reacted to the one-term presidency pledge of ex-Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

El-Rufai urged Obi to stop making such a commitment because four years is not enough to make any meaningful changes in Nigeria.

The key member of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, spoke while featuring on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics.

Recalling that Obi and Rotimi Amaechi have been governors, El-Rufai said no Nigerian believes in their one-term presidency pledge.

He said: “On the question of people saying they will come out and do one term, I don’t think that anyone believes them and I don’t think that it’s right.

“You should not constitutionally give up what is yours and frankly, as someone who has been governor for eight years, Amaechi and Peter Obi have both been governors.

“They know the time it takes to make meaningful changes in governance, four years is not enough.

“I want to appeal to everyone to stop making this commitment of I will do four years because nobody believes you.”
