Natasha: Quite disheartening women face struggle in Senate – Njai

Pan-African Parliament/former member of ECOWAS Parliament, Fatoumatta Njai, says it is disheartening that 1 out of 4 women in the Nigerian Senate is facing one struggle or the other.

Njai expressed her grievances on Wednesday while responding to questions in an interview on Arise Television.

This is coming following the prevention of Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, from resuming in the Senate after the expiration of her six months’ suspension.

the Senate on Monday told Natasha that she could not resume yet because of her pending case in court.

Reacting, the former member of ECOWAS Parliament said the matter being sub judice should not stop Senator Natasha from going back after serving her suspension for six months.

“I know I’m not a Nigerian but I’m an African. I am a Pan-Africanist and also, as a former member of ECOWAS Parliament, I know a little of how Nigerian politics is.

“I know the struggles and the hurdles that women parliamentarians go through to be elected, let alone going to serve and having been denied that opportunity to serve,” she said.
