Oyinkasola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, has edged Olumuyiwa Akinboro, SAN, in an informal Facebook poll conducted among Nigerian lawyers, offering an early glimpse into sentiments ahead of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) presidential election scheduled for July.
The poll was conducted on a lawyers’ facebook forum, “Nigerian Lawyers on Facebook Platform,” and asked participants to indicate the candidate they would vote for in the NBA presidential election.
At the close of the poll, Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, emerged with a slim lead, securing 47 per cent of the votes. Akinboro, SAN, followed closely with 45 per cent, while Yemi Akangbe, SAN, garnered 7 per cent of the respondents’ votes.
The poll ran for 48 hours and recorded a total of 54 respondents, reflecting a tightly contested race between the leading contenders.
Although unofficial and limited in scope, the results have sparked discussions among lawyers about the competitiveness of the forthcoming NBA election and the strength of support enjoyed by the aspirants across the profession.
Observers note that while social media polls do not determine election outcomes, they often provide insight into emerging trends and grassroots perceptions among lawyers as the campaign season gathers momentum.
