No more vagabond in PDP, I was with you in 2023 but no more – Makinde to Wike
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Tuesday described the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, a former governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, and erstwhile national secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Samuel Anyanwu, expelled by his (Makinde’s) faction of the PDP as “vagabonds” hellbent on causing chaos in the party.
Speaking during the inauguration of the newly built Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secretariat in Ibadan, Oyo State, Mr Makinde attributed the internal crisis in the PDP to the infiltration of the party by individuals, determined to obstruct the party’s progress.
Mr Makinde stated, “In Yorubaland, we always say that if you see a house or a compound that is peaceful, the vagabond in that land has not grown up. The vagabonds in PDP grew up in 2015.
“They had their time and ten years, a decade, they practised their ‘vagabondcy’ in the PDP. But they have been expelled in November 2025. So no more vagabonds in PDP.”
The governor explained that the current actions exhibited by the expelled PDP cannot be divorced from the unchecked misconduct, traceable to the party’s origin.
Mr Makinde said the ousted members were responsible for the loss which the party recorded during the 2015 presidential election.
He stated, “Whatever it is they are doing, you should be able to trace it back to their origin. In 2015, PDP lost power to the federal level. There was a gap in the leadership. Otherwise, those vagabonds would never have been able to take hold of the PDP.”
Acknowledging his past association with the expelled members, Mr Makinde said his relationship, which grew to become a yoke, deteriorated towards 2023.
Expressing repentance, the governor stated that he had changed his ways and would no longer condone double-dealings aimed at holding the PDP down for the advantage of another party.
Mr Makinde said, “Let me confess, I came into government in 2019. And towards 2023, I was yoked with them. But now, I have repented. I’m now born again. But for them to hold PDP for another party to be in power, it is no no no.”
Responding to an earlier remark by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, who declared an interest in all activities of the Oyo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr Makinde criticised the former Rivers State governor’s performance and record in Rivers State.
“Someone said he has interest in PDP in Oyo State and nationally. Help me ask him what he has done for PDP in Rivers State where he hails from,” Mr Makinde said.
He added, “They are wearing filthy rags, dancing around at midnight. The day will soon break for them.”
Last Monday, the face-off between the FCT Minister, Mr Wike and Oyo State Governor, Mr Makinde assumed a fresh twist.
Mr Wike, while addressing PDP’s 105th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja, promised to protect the party from elements he described as “vampires.”
The FCT Minister added that he was interested in the “survival, stability and success” of the party across the country and particularly in Oyo State.
